The Department

Our Commercial Property team specialise in commercial property and land deals, renewable energy, telecommunications, plus commercial leases, and property portfolio management. With 6 partners and 18 lawyers in our top-tier Legal 500 commercial property practice, you can be sure our ability is second-to-none. The team works together to grasp complex problems quickly and suggest commercially viable solutions for our clients.

The Role

To advise clients on a wide range of planning and development matters, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and contributing to the success of our clients' projects.

Main Responsibilities

  • Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities both externally and internally within Tees.  This may include marketing initiatives by the individual or team, marketing events, networking, speaking at seminars on specialist topics and contributing to or writing publications.
  • Make a significant contribution to Tees’ reputation and position within the community by virtue of our reputation for excellence and specialist skills and knowledge.
  • Drafting and negotiating section 106 and other infrastructure agreements.
  • Manage and oversee planning applications, appeals and inquiries.
  • Advising in relation to listed building and planning control including enforcement action, compulsory purchase and compensation.
  • Advising on contentious planning matters including judicial review and planning inquiries and Community Infrastructure Levy.

Person Specification

  • Qualified solicitor with a minimum of 4 years of post-qualification experience in planning law.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of UK planning law, regulation, policies and procedures.
  • Proven experience in handling complex planning applications, appeals and inquiries.
  • Can evidence they meet the essential technical and behavioural criteria for the role.
